Vaping

The National Institute on Drug Abuse says that vaping devices or E-cigarettes “are battery-operated devices that people use to inhale an aerosol, which typically contains nicotine (though not always), flavorings, and other chemicals. They can resemble traditional tobacco cigarettes (cig-a-likes), cigars, or pipes, or even everyday items like pens or USB memory sticks.”

This technology was initially advertised to be a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes, but that is false advertising. Every study shows that vaping is extremely harmful to the body and brain of anyone of any age, and in some ways it can be seen as worse. For instance, one small Juul pod has roughly the same amount of nicotine as one whole pack of traditional cigarettes. That’s a whole pack of cigarettes in the size of a small USB stick.

The concentration of liquid in these vaping devices is so extreme that addiction happens much quicker. There are growing numbers of vaping devices containing THC (psychoactive cannabinoid compound) instead of nicotine. Because of the THC concentration in these devices, there has been a steep rise in Marijuana Use Disorder and marijuana overdose, which can produce long-lasting physical effects, mental effects, or even death.
